Canoe on the road, Motorcycle on the head as Lagos rain causes disaster(Photos)
It was on the forecast way before now that Lagos was going to
experience some kind of massive rainy days, but it was never envisaged
that it was going to turn compounds to swimming pools, and roads to
rivers. It is evident that drainage system in Lagos hasn't reached its
full potential of handling the floods that ravage the streets when rain
of this lot falls.
Pastor Tunde Bakare summoned by police over GEJ preaching
Men
of the State Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police have extended
invitation to fiery Lagos preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare, over what
police sources see as a controversial sermon against President Goodluck
Jonathan.
The invitation is sequel to a sermon which he (Pastor Bakare) delivered in his church wherein he accused President Jonathan of deliberately trying to bankrupt the country.
Publicity secretary of the Save Nigeria Group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, who confirmed the development in a chat with LEADERSHIP on telephone, however, said Bakare, the leader of the group, was aware of the summon.
Bakare, the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in the last general election was billed to honour the invitation but had left the country on Wednesday.
“We saw an invitation by the police asking Pastor Bakare to honour an invitation regarding a sermon that he delivered sometime ago, but, as I am talking to you now, he is out of the country,” Odumakin said.
Though, it was speculated that security agents might prevent him from making the journey, which many believe was to the United States of America, he made without it hindrance.
Excerpt of Pastor Bakare’s Sermon
“We have vampires whose assignment is to kill Nigeria and to make sure that Nigeria does not exist thereafter. Suddenly Nigeria that was that cheered now has clueless, shoeless people take over the administration of Nigeria.
“And the one word I have for Nigerians is, don’t despair. Jonathan is dancing to the drumbeat of destiny. His destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria. All men of goodwill must rise up to stop him. And stop him we will do. And I said stop him we will do. Don’t make mistake about what you are hearing from me today, it is clear in my heart beyond any iota of doubt that Jonathan’s destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria, balkanize Nigeria.
And there are forces behind him totally committed and determined to do so. Oil vultures with petrol dollars and all kinds of political “tinkers” not thinkers are tinkering with the destiny of our nation with their palace prophets telling them peace when there is no peace.
I want to tell you that it does not matter what it takes, we will stop you. We will stop you dead in your tracks. You will not accomplish your assignment. You will not finish your assignment. Nigeria will vomit you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Turn your Bible with me to the Book of Chronicles. Tell it on the mountain top that this man is dancing the drumbeat of destiny.
His destiny is to bankrupt this nation and balkanize it and he has the full support of his corporate cowboys and oil vultures as well as their palace prophets who are telling them peace when there is no peace because I don’t understand how a nation will be going through calamity upon calamity and those who should be concerned will only be prancing around. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how you can serve your nation and serve bomb blast inside a church in Jos for breakfast.
And before they could recover from that anguish you serve them air crash for lunch. And before they could gain their moment of sanity, you serve them with petro dollar bribe and now you vaunt about it telling us nothing can happen because you are in charge, the land will vomit you as the Lord lives in the name of Jesus Christ and every collaborator will not go unpunished.
Your year of punishment has come. Tell it on the mountain top that there are still men of goodwill who will stop you dead in your tracks.
I am not talking about deluded ambitious politicians who now think of 2015 when the nation is in a mess in 2012. We can do all the tinkering, if we don’t rise up now there will not be 2015.”

Two Sisters Deeply in Love with Dad Who killed their Mother
Two
sisters aged 28 and 25 are grieving for their father who pleaded guilty
of murder and will spend 11 years behind bars.According to a ‘Daily
Mail’ report, the incident took place in 2008. The eldest of girls
described her parents as a “couple who couldn’t be apart but shouldn’t
have been together. They had an intense and destructive relationship
that brought out the worst in each other.”
They
call their dad ‘gentle’ and still in love with their mom. Recalling
those days, the girls say their parents were having trouble since they
moved to Bristol. But when they were not fighting there was so much of
love between them. However, in 2005 they separated. After a year their
dad returned and their dad paid major bills and did their mother’s
washing and ironing, too. But soon their mom started dating someone
else.
That
year when the girls returned home after Christmas party police greeted
them at home and broke the news to them. Their mom was in coma. Couple
of days later, the girls decided to take her off life support.
“I
separate the person who killed my mom from the person who is my dad,”
one of them says. “The bond between Dad, Sara and me is stronger than
ever.” We still love him.

It is now a criminal offence to impregnate a woman and desert her in Lagos state
The Lagos State Government announced yesterday a review of the law
enacted to protect pregnant women and their babies. The State Attorney
General, Ade Ipaye said that it is now a criminal offence in Lagos for a
man to desert a woman he impregnated. At the sensitization programme on
the ‘Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011′ and ‘Administration of Criminal
Justice Law, 2011′, Mr. Ipaye said the law was enacted to protect
pregnant women and their babies.
He added that the new law makes it criminal for a man to refuse to contribute to the ante-natal and post-natal expenses of a woman he impregnated. “Any person who impregnates a woman or girl and fails, refuses or neglects to contribute to maternity related cost from ante-natal or post-natal stages, is guilty of an offence under section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and is liable to face the wrath of the law,” Ipaye said.
Ipaye said the old law handed down by the British Colonial Government was outdated, as it mainly reflected the values of the colonial administration. “The review of this law was necessitated by the fact that some of the laws that existed prior to this time were outdated. The review is therefore aimed at reflecting current day realities, as the old Criminal Code Law has become inadequate to address the challenges of contemporary criminality.”
Ipaye, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Justice, said the state criminal law was enacted to regulate public order and provide rules on criminal conduct, among other objectives. He however stressed that the new law has replaced the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State Cap.C17 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003, introduced in Southern Nigeria in 1914.

The officials - Owolabi Kolawole (25) and Okunola Kayode (28) - were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Igbekele Akinyele on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.
They were said to have committed the offence with others at large on
June 14, 2012 at about 11.30 a.m. at UBA on Owo/Ado Road, Akure. The
police accused the two SSS operatives of robbing a car dealer, Peter
Charles Denis of his N480,000.
The offence, the police said, was contrary to and punishable under
Section 402 (1) of the Criminal Code cap 30 Vol. II laws of Ondo State,
1978.
Although the accused persons pleade not guilty, one of them, Kolawole claimed that they went to arrest the complainant, Denis, and he gave them N100,000 so that they won’t take him to their office.
However, Chief Magistrate Akinyele told them that even if their claim was true, it amounted to bribe-taking in legal parlance.
On his part, the Police prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, informed the court that he had four witnesses and urged the court to grant an adjournment to enable him to assemble them.
Chief magistrate Akinyele also denied them bail, saying as SSS officers they were not supposed to take bribe. He thus remanded them in prison custody and adjourned the matter to July 20 for hearing.

Bill on birth control on the way?
GEJ&Sambo with national population commissioners after their swearing in yesterday |
There are indications he might sponsor a bill on birth control as a way of curtailing unrestrained population explosion in Nigeria.
President
Goodluck Jonathan gave the hint yesterday June 26th at the
Presidential Villa while administering oath of office to the newly
appointed chairman and members of the National Population Commission
(NPC). He said:
“For
us to plan properly, we must manage our population, but it is
extremely sensitive because we are extremely religious people, either
as Christians or Muslims. Both Christians and Moslems and even
traditionalists and all the other religions believe that children are
God’s gifts to man, so it is difficult for you to tell any Nigerian to
number their children because they are gifts of God and it is not
expected to reject God’s gifts.
The
key thing is how you will, through your advocacy, come up with plans
and programmes that encourage Nigerians to have the number of children
they can manage, before government comes up with clear policies and
guidelines. First and foremost is the personal consciousness that people
should get the family they can manage.
“Sometimes you get to the house of somebody living in a well-furnished duplex. There is the husband and wife and maybe two, three or four children. But the guard at the gate may have nine children. That is the scenario you have. So, first and foremost, before government comes up with regulations, guidelines or laws, Nigerians must be made to know that we cannot continue to procreate and procreate even though we know children are God's gifts." President Jonathan Goodluck

Davido’s Arrogance Get Him Dirty Slaps In Abuja
Davido, arguably, is the most sought after artiste in the current Nigerian music market.
The super entertainer who is an ambassador of MTN Pulse is multi talented and this explains why he’s a pianist, producer, composer and arranger of songs. Away from the appraisals, the tattoo loving artiste, going by the latest gist at our disposal might need to watch the way he talks to people and stop letting his sudden stardom derail him off radar like those who have come and gone be for him.
The fast rising star who would be collaborating with Senegalese Konvict Music boss and singer, Akon, on the remix of his rave making single, Dami Duro, we reliably gathered was recently harassed and hit by a uniformed man at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to the angry source, the musician was invited for the recently concluded Nokia Rap Battle show alongside other prominent acts by one Nosa, a fast rising music producer cum manager. The show ended and according to the source, Davido who was said to be drunk to stupor insisted on leaving in a friend’s car instead of going in the one the ones that brought him, and other top artistes and crew from the hotel.
He insisted though and Nosa being his host had to drive behind them, bubble later burst when the car conveying Davido was stopped by some military men for the routine check especially at that time of the night.
Our source revealed that the obviously tipsy Davido jumped out of the car and started boasting “don’t you know me, what the fuck is wrong with you guys…” He started shouting about who he is and what guts the Mopol men had to stop his friend`s car.
This act, we were infuriated one of the Mopol and while the musician was still ranting and boasting, he was landed a dirty slap and was threatened with gun to shut up if he does not want to be bathed in his blood.
The musician we were further told was immediately rushed back into the car by Nosa and his friend who had at that point got down from their bus and pleaded with the uniformed men that he’s actually a popular musician especially in Lagos and was coming from a show.
The story however didn’t end there as the angry Davido did not hesitate to transfer aggression to Nosa immediately they got back to the hotel. The musician we learnt went as far as telling the man who got him the Nokia performance deal to shut up and not talk when he’s talking else he would slap him the way the Mopol treated him.
Nosa, the simple lifestyle dude who we learnt might have been in the entertainment industry before Davido was born, just walked away because he saw Davido as a proud boy.
Nonso, we gathered`is currently a stakeholder in Limelite Records which has signed artistes like Freestyle, Munachi Abii and many more. “He could not withstand a boy of Davido’s age talk to him in such manner for trying to help him realize his mistakes and as such, had to quietly walk away. Anyway pride goes before fall so my advice is the billionaire son should thread softly.” One of the eye-witnesses revealed to us.

Mainstreet Bank sacks 800 workers
Mainstreet
bank, formerly Afribank Nigeria Plc, on Friday June 22nd terminated the
services of 800 of its employees, including 650 members of the
Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial
Institutions (ASSBIFI), a unit of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria
(TUC).
The Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade John Kolawole made the disclosure at a press conference in Lagos yesterday June 15th. He queried Mainstreet bank’s sudden unilateral action despite ongoing negotiations and a court injunction that prevents Mainstreet from terminating employees.
He said, “there is an injunction by the tripartite committee between representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, the union and management of Mainstreet Bank. The committee insisted that the bank must maintain the status quo till the issues were resolved.”
“The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) views this act of Management of Mainstreet Bank Ltd as the height of provocation and lawlessness which is condemnable. Consequently, TUC unequivocally states and demands the reversal of these terminations and other anti-labour acts immediately, failing which TUC will mobilise all its affiliates, allies and resources to shut down completely the operations of the bank nationwide.”
He added, “We are therefore appealing to all well-meaning Nigerians, Hon. Minister of Labour and Productivity, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Director-General, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Cooperation (NDIC), The Managing Director, Asset Management Company of Nigeria(AMCON), Acting Inspector General of Police to prevail on the Management of the Bank before the bubble bursts.”
Media reports say the management of Mainstreet Bank terminated the employees by denying them access to the company’s IT network, physcial offices and asking them to wait for their termination letters which would be disseminated to them via email.
