Boko Haram, Police shoot-out: 7 killed, 14 arrested

Three policemen were killed weekend in a bloody clash with members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect at Darmunawa quarters in Kano municipality. Four members of the sect also died in the encounter while 14 of them were arrested with assorted Improvised Explosive Devices and three posh cars recovered.
Kano state police commissioner Mr Ibrahim Idris said the shootout occurred on Saturday after a suspected Boko Haram leader discovered that his house was under surveillance by the police and called out other members of the group to attack the police. Idris told newsmen that two of the police officers on surveillance duty were killed, and that when reinforcements were sent, one of those officers was also shot dead and another wounded.
“Four of the sect members were shot dead,” he said, referring to the suspected Boko Haram members.
Some of the sect members fled and were pursued by members of the public according to Idris while the suspected leader, Mohammed Aliyu, who also goes by the alias Hamza, was arrested at a checkpoint.
Police said they found rifles in his car that had been stolen from police in Yobe and Kaduna states. Bomb materials were found in his house, according to Idris.
The Commissioner of Police who paraded some of the arrested suspects along side the cache of arms explained that they owed their success to the cooperation of the locals who supported the police.
He stated that preliminary investigation revealed that all those arrested were neither natives nor Hausas, stressing that this provoked the locals into action.
According to Mr Idris, “a total of 14 suspects have so far been arrested and investigation so far revealed that all of them are non natives or non indigenes of Kano, and they are strangers who have made their state inhabitable and fled to Kano to abuse the hospitality”
Mr. Idris noted that the locals have demonstrated that they have no sympathy or affiliation with these groups of individuals, adding there was visible anger on the part of the locals who risked their lives to assist the police contain the attack.
The CP  displayed 7 riffles, including 4 AK 47, 1,125 ammunition, 9 magazines which were impounded during raids of some suspected hideout in the city. Other items recovered from the suspects included 19 bags of ammonium chemicals, one bag of iron scraps for making bomb, twenty bags of substances for making bomb, international passports, one 25 litters jerry can containing chemicals and another two assembled bombs.
In an incident on Thursday, gunmen attacked a military-run school outside the city, killing at least three air force personnel, but it was unclear if there was any link to Boko Haram.
Mr Idris  said that the Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringim has ordered  a heroic burial for the dead officers that include three regulars and a spy during the bloody encounter.
Spokesman for the sect, Abul Qaqa, told reporters the group was not behind the school attack, but claimed it was involved in the shootout in Kano.
The bloody encounter has forced the police authority to set up check points at strategic points in the metropolis, as the Police headquarters in Bompai was cordoned off.
In Sabon Gari areas where non natives reside night life has been crippled as the hustle and bustle associated with the area has disappeared
Prayers were offered in churches on Sunday for divine intervention, while their Muslim counterparts did same in their respective mosques.

20 Year Girl Arrested For Faking Pregnancy

A 20-year-old house help, Ivy Nkrumah, has been arrested for faking pregnancy. She was said to have stuffed rags around her stomach in order to collect
money from her boyfriend, Francis Osei Bonsu.

The Station Officer of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Inspector Who Knows Attipoe, told journalists in Accra yesterday that somewhere in June this year the suspect reported to DOVVSU at her boyfriend, Bonsu, a businessman, had impregnated her and had failed to cater for her.

He said DOVVSU referred the case to the Social Welfare where Bonsu was asked to remit an amount of GH¢50 every month and also take care of her
medical expenses until she delivered.
Inspector Attipoe said Bonsu subsequently started paying the Money through the Social Welfare to Ivy.

Later, Bonsu suspected that Ivy was not pregnant and decided to stop paying the money and was later called by the officials of the Social Welfare to explain
why. Inspector Attipoe said officials of the Social Welfare, then referred the case to a Family Tribunal Court in Accra where it was decided that Bonsu pays GH¢100 every month and rent a place for her.

According to the station officer, he paid the GH¢100 once and did not pay again because he was still suspicious that Ivy was not really pregnant. Inspector Attipoe said when he failed to pay the
following month, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on December 9.

At the court, Bonsu insisted that he suspected the pregnancy was faked.

The court therefore, conducted an examination on her and realised that Ivy had tied rags around her belly and she was subsequently arrested.

The Crime officer said she would be put before court for defrauding by false pretence and deceit of a public officer.
In an interview with the suspect, Ivy claimed she got pregnant with Bonsu, but later had a miscarriage.

She said she did that to pay the man back because Bonsu promised to cater for her but reneged.

".... Why I Sold My Two Babies To Traffickers" - Mother

The dark complexioned lady, Emem Godwin Etukudo, who is already cooling her feet in the police cell said that it was poverty that drove her into the
illicit trade of giving birth and selling her babies.

According to her, after having her children, she had no money to cater for them, hence the option of selling them out, believing that those who have the
money to buy them will be able to take care of them while she uses the proceeds for her up keep.

"I have nobody to help me and I am jobless, I don't always want the children to suffer in my hands and the only option I believe is to give them to those who are looking for children and can take care of them," she said.

Are this reasons good enough for her to sell her babies she carried inside her womb for nine months.... Some women can be so wicked and foolish..

My husband was killed by his bosom police friend, laments wife of slain DPO

FOR the family of Mr. Celestine Ozuruoha, the slain Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Uratta Police Station in Aba, Abia state, life will definitely not be the safe again as they are going to live the rest of their lives without their loved husband, father and brother.
Since the police officer died about ten days ago, the wife, Mrs.Chinyere Ozuruoha has not recovered from the shock of the sad news. More painful is her suspicion that her husband was killed by his close friend and colleague.
DPO Ozuruoha, said to be a very sincere and hardworking officer, was killed in the early hours of Monday December, 5 2011, while on a night patrol with some of his men. His death has given Abia state police command a big puzzle which it is
Late Ozuruola
still battling to resolve.
Already, the command has arrested some police men who were on duty with the late DPO on that fateful night he was killed. The traditional ruler of the community where the killing took place was also arrested. They are all still in police custody.
However, Mrs. Ozuruoha is insisting that her husband was killed by one of the police officer’s in police custody, who she described as her husband’s “bosom friend”. The family has therefore appealed to the Inspector- General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim to prevail on the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, to fish out the killers of their son.
Mrs. Ozuruoha, a mother of five, strongly alleged that her husband was set up by his police friend just because he did not encourage corruption.
“My husband was a police officer who does not smoke, drink or womanize. He has worked with both the current Abia State Police Commissioner and Aba Area Commander when they were in Ibadan Oyo State. The two men can testify to his kind of person.
“A DPO who does not own a car in Nigeria, you will know that he abhors corruption, the fact that he did not own a car never bordered him. Rather, he believed that by dint of hard work, he would own one. You cannot imagine that he was still building a house before he was brutally murdered”, Mrs Ozuruoha lamented.
According to her, “last two weeks when my husband came to Enugu where we are living, he complained about threat to his life on account of his resolve to deal decisively with kidnappers, and armed robbers, particularly, a car thief incident he was handing before his death. He said one of the arrested suspects who, incidentally, was his close friend was behind the threat.
The slain DPO with his family
“Last week [before he was killed], because of the car theft case, my husband told me that the same police officer who even visited our home in Enugu and Uli used the language,‘turkey don born monkey’ against him for his insistence on allowing justice to be done in the car theft case against the wish of the his bosom police friend”.
The devastated widow of the DPO also alleged that on that fateful early morning, one of the police officers now in detention, called her husband by1am over a robbery incident, and being his friend, her husband responded to the call not knowing that he was called out to be killed by his friend whom she said was working for some people.
“I have always known that that man was never a good friend to my husband but my husband is someone that always trusts people. As a dutiful DPO, he responded to the call by that time because he always wanted to encourage his subordinates. He even called the station guard who went with him to answer the call by that 1am, and the man has [allegedly] testified how he was killed and who shot him.
“The issue of unknown assailants should not arise, his colleagues know who killed him, and some of them have even called us to tell us the person that did the dastardly shooting”, Mrs. Ozuruoha said amidst tears.
The widow who appealed to the police authorities not to allow the killers of her husband to go free also passionately called on the IG to ensure that the education of her children did not stop with the death of her husband. She also appealed to the authorities to help her complete the building project her husband started before his death.
When contacted Wednesday night, Abia state police commissioner, Mr. Bala Hassan said investigation was still on in the matter. He confirmed that some arrests have been made including police men and the traditional ruler of the particular community where the DPO was killed.

Husband 'Strangles' His Pregnant Wife for Denying Him Sex

But for the timely intervention of men of the Nigeria Police Force, Ajao Estate division, a Lagos-based businessman, Solomon Iwuchukwu, would have probably killed his beautiful wife whose pregnancy is already eight-months old, because of sex.

His excuse: Mr. Iwuchukwu said since he returned from abroad, his...
pregnant wife had refused to have sex with him. He told the police that she locks her room and always refuse him entry and "she doesn’t come into my room to sleep, either."

54-year old Iwuchukwu who hails from Mbaise in Imo State, became a guest of the police when he forced his way into his wife's room, grad her on the neck and tried to have his way with the pregnant woman by force. The policemen, acting on a tip off, raced to their house and stopped the husband  before things could go out of control.

The shocked woman, identified as Ifeoma, said since her husband lost some money in a bad business he has turned her into a punching bag, despite her condition. The 33-year old woman (pictured above), who told the police that she's an orphan, denied starving him of sex. She said appeals by her relations to her husband to stop beating her fell on deaf ears.

Ifeoma however wondered why her husband would still be having sex with her at this advanced stage of her pregnancy, when actually he knew her medical history of losing pregnancies before delivery. “He doesn’t treat me as his wife at all and believes that I am his property to be used at will,” she cried.

Meanwhile, a non-governmental organisation, International Charitable Initiative for Girl-child and Women Foundation has stepped into her case. The president of the Foundation, Barrister Helen Ibeji, described the action of the husband who is detained at at the station as inhuman and barbaric.

A man should treat his wife with respect and dignity,” she stressed. Barr. Helen said her foundation decided to intervene in the matter in order to protect the woman and the unborn child.

Popular Pastor Arraigned for Taking Another Man’s Wife

For hobnobbing and travelling out of Nigeria with another man’s wife against her husband’s repeated warnings, the senior pastor of Jordan Ministries in Opebi, Lagos, Pastor Ndukwe Chigbo has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court.

During interrogation, it was gathered, the woman at the centre of the scandal (name withheld) confessed that she had been having an affair with the pastor for...
a long time and that they both left Nigeria together to enjoy themselves in Kenya. But in his own statement to the police, Pastor Chigbo denied travelling with the woman at the same time. He claimed that she was the one who actually came to meet him in Kenya

He was arraigned on charges of abducting another man’s wife.
Trouble started for the Pastor when the enraged husband, identified as Mr. Ndiomu, did not see his wife at home for some days and went to the church to enquire about her whereabouts. He was shocked to discover that his wife and Pastor Chigbo had travelled to Kenya since November 23, for “church retreat”

Mr. Ndiomu, who is the son of a retired army general, promptly reported the strange development to the police who in turn arrested the pastor on his return to Nigeria for wife abduction. The husband, in his statement to police, disclosed that he had warned his wife to stop attending the church for some reasons, and wondered what made her travelled out of the country for seven days with the same pastor without his consent.

The Court however adjourned the case to enable both parties present more facts before it.

Nigeria Police Inspector Rapes 15 Year-Old Girl at Gun Point

Men of the Nigerian Police Force could not hide their shame over the wicked and shameful behaviour of one of their own – Abdullahi Ibrahim, a police Inspector who raped a 15 year-old girl, Aisha Bello, at gun point during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The randy police officer visited the dastardly act on the innocent teenager with the help of his friend, a civilian named Ali. They forcefully took the victim to...
the outskirts of Zamfara State, somewhere in Maradun Local Government Area, where they violently raped her.

On seeing the physical 'damages' that was done to his daughter, Mallam Muhammed Maradun immediately petitioned the Police authority in the state and requested that the matter must be investigated with a view to ensure his little girl gets justice.

Contrary to what the public was used to, the leadership of the Zamfara State police command swung into action and arrested the rapist. The matter was investigated and the Inspector was found wanting. As a result of findings, according to the state’s police public relations officer, ASP Sanusi Amiru, Inspector Abdullahi Ibrahim has been dismissed from the Force.

ASP Sanusi condemned the action of the dismissed officer, while assuring members of the public that the police is going through a cleansing process and would, henceforth, not take it lightly with any policeman who abused the public trust. He said the suspect would be charged to court shortly for the offence

How I wish Nigerian Police have been doing their job this well before. Things for don dey better.

She Got Married At 16, Became A Prostitute At 20, Now A Recluse

Like any other child, Blessing Edwin had an ambitious dream when she was five. Her dream was to acquire education and attain an enviable career that could improve her life and lift her immediate family from the dungeon of poverty.

But her beautiful dream died too soon at 16, when, against her wish, she was forcefully married off to a man twice her father’s age by her beloved mother. But in her determination to fulfill destiny,...
Blessing fled home and her bus stop was Kano, where she had earlier lived with an aunt, who trained her in the primary school prior to the forced marriage.

After escaping to Kano, Blessing was full of hopes that she can now enroll in a secondary school with the assistance of her aunt who was still eager and willing to assist her. But unfortunately, her hope was short-circuited as she constantly took ill and got admitted in the hospital over one ailment or the other.

For fear that she might be held liable if anything happened to Blessing, her aunty advised that she returned to her mother in Akwa Ibom to resolve their animosity. By the time she returned, her mother was no longer interested in her case, since had "disappointed" her by running away from her old-man husband.

Blessing recounted her experience when she returned home. She said her home-coming gave her mother an opportunity to hit back at her. She said: “She was furious when she saw me, and mocked me that I rejected a wealthy suitor for what I consider a better life and ended up a big loser.”

Since then, her life deteriorated as her mother allegedly subjected her to sleep with different kinds of men in order to make money and sustain the family. She was 20 then. The climax came when officials of the Lagos State Government raided where Blessing worked as a sex worker and was taken to Kirikiri Prisons.

She relived her prison experience thus: “I was at the Kirikiri Prisons with other girls for some weeks before we were released. When we got out of prison, I had no place to go, but there was a boy I had known as a friend while working in the hotel. I called him and he asked me to come over to his house where he offered me accommodation. Unfortunately I got pregnant for him and to my surprise, he denied responsibility for the pregnancy, reminding me that I was a prostitute and could have been pregnant before the arrest.”

At 24, Blessing had seen it all; the good, the bad and the ugly. Today, she roams Lagos streets with nowhere in particular to lay her head.#

Hmmm, what a sad story! I hope parents will learn from the experience of this lady. Majority of these early marriages doesn't end well and the scars they left on the victims (young girls) is always too lethal for them to withstand. As it stands, only God's intervention will save Blessing Edwin.

South African Woman Arrested For Hiding Cocaine In her Dread Locks

A woman was caught trying to smuggle 1.5 kilograms of cocaine in her dreadlocks on a flight to Bangkok, it was reported today. South African Nobanda Nolubabalo, 23, was arrested and held in Thailand's capital yesterday after customs officers allegedly noticed a suspicious white substance in her hair.

Officials later carried out a search and discovered she had allegedly matted the Class A drug into her dreadlocks before boarding a flight from Brazil.
'A search found traces of white substance which turned out to be cocaine.
'A total of 1.5kg of cocaine was found hidden in herhair.'

Nolubabalo was today being held in custody after being held at Bangkok's international Suvarnabhumi Airport as she disembarked a Qatar Airways flight
which had come from Sao Paolo via Doha. The Bangkok Post reported that the suspect had allegedly admitted trying to smuggle the drug and claimed she had done so after being hired to work as a drug mule by a Thailand based businessman for £1,200 (60,000baht).

Thailand has some of the toughest anti-drugs laws on the planet, with judges permitted to impose the death penalty for traffickers. The South African's arrest follows the execution of another South African citizen this week for drug smuggling in China. Janice Linden, 38, was killed by lethal injection on Monday after she was caught in November 2008 trying to smuggle 3kg of crystal meth into the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

South Africa's president Jacob Zuma appealed unsuccessfully to the Chinese government to commute the sentence before she was put to death in prison.

The smuggled cocaine had a street value of £93,000... Nolubabalo, 23, was hired as a drug mule for £1,200...

Judges in Thailand can impose the death
penalty for drug traffickers!

"First, the Bible says train your child the way he should go so that when he grows,he will not depart from it.So, I believe if you put the right thing in place and the right training in place and you do the right thing at the beginning. I think Wiz has a good training spirit and I believe he has learnt that from his parents because I took him up two and half years ago. He has great parents and we love them and we have constant communication with them".

We need to thank them raising a solid boy like Wiz. So,I am acting as his big brother and boss and I constantly talk to him and the other artiste,Skales. I try to instill discipline in them and level of focus too.

If you ask them why they are spreading the rumour, they will not have a definite answer other than they don't just like you. With that,Iam not going to address anybody that wants to tarnish my image and that of my artistes.
