Man nabbed over alleged attempted murder

A middle aged man, Mr Festus Otete, has been apprehended by the Police in Oleh, Delta State for allegedly attempting to snuff life out of one Mr
Emmanuel Igbiride.

The suspect, Vanguard gathered, had been in running battle with the victim over the ownership of a fishpond at Emede community, Isoko South Local
Government Area of the State.

It was further gathered that the suspect last Sunday ambushed the victim at the fishpond, shot him with a G3 military riffle on his lap and left him bleeding.

A reliable source told the Vanguard that it was one of the victim's sons who came to his rescue, adding that he raised alarm on sighting his father in his own pool of blood at the side of the fishpond.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the son in company of other sympathizers, rushed him to a private hospital (name withheld) at Oleh where he is currently receiving treatment.

Speaking further, the source said the son, after placing his father under intensive medical care, rushed to Oleh Police Division to report the incident,
adding that the police immediately moved into action and arrested the suspected murderer.

Contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the division, Mr. Chris Sorgbarha, confirmed the incident and said a G3 military riffle and ten rounds of ammunition were recovered from
the suspect.

Noting that the matter was still being investigated, he insisted that the suspect would be charged to court for attempted murder.

He appealed to members of the public still in possession of unlicensed fire arms to return them to the police.

He also told the people to report illegal possession of fire arms to the police, adding that the police was out to deal with criminals in the area.
