Ex-Militants Protest Non-Payment of Allowances in Benin

Hundreds of ex-militants, yesterday in Benin City, Edo State, staged a peaceful protest over alleged non-payment of their 18 months' allowance. They called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately remove his Special Adviser on Niger Delta Matters, Mr. Kingsely Kuku.

The former militants, who alleged that they were under the Phase II Programme for rehabilitation of ex-militants, stormed the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, secretariat in Benin City, with placards bearing various inscriptions, such as "Justice Must Prevail, We Need Our Money," "Kingsley Kuku Must Go," "11 months, no payment, We need our Money," among others.

Emomomemi Ezebri and Julius Bank, who spoke on behalf of their colleagues, blamed their plight on Mr. Kuku.
