Rihanna is prepared to defend her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in court, according to reports.
On September 25, it was reported that Brown had tested positive for cannabis, leading a judge to set a hearing to see whether he has violated the terms of his probation. The controversial singer allegedly took the drug in June in Virginia, where he is doing community service after assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
Although compulsory drug tests are not a condition of Brown's probation, the judge has set a hearing on November 1 to decide whether he has violated his probation on that and other matters, including travel restrictions and fulfillment of his community service.
According to Radar Online, however, Rihanna wants to tell Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg that she shouldn't set a date for his probation hearing as he has shown remorse for his actions.
"Rihanna has spoken to Chris since his progress reporting hearing on Monday afternoon and offered her continued support," said a source.
"Rihanna told Chris she would go to court on November 1 for his court appearance and tell Judge Patricia Schnegg that she shouldn't set a hearing to decide if he violated terms of his probation because he has accepted responsibility for his actions and has apologised to RiRi on multiple occasions.
They added: "Rihanna would also tell the judge that Chris isn't the same person now, as he was on that fateful night when he assaulted her."
The source also claimed that the singer was not concerned with whether she received any public flak for backing Brown, adding: "Rihanna doesn't care if she is criticised for standing by Chris, she genuinely loves him."
Brown was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service after pleading guilty to criminal assault for beating Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy awards in 2009.
He has recently become the target of a sticker campaign in the UK, which was copies of his new album being labelled with warnings not to buy the LP as the singer 'beats women'.
